Shadow Light by the Lake
Memories from the darkened house
Are enough to make one cry
Visions of the old oak tree
Where love was new to you and me
Will haunt my tattered soul until I die
Upstairs where my thoughts held
In the silent place I called my room
I sat and thought of the hurt in my past
Brought by you then gone in a flash
The alcove hinted of light perfume
In the family room below the attic
Laid pictures of my fading past
One of us so young and naïve
Who knew you would suddenly leave
Perfection never really ever lasts
Nights under the moonlit lake
Made loving you such a chore
Trees swaying in exact motion
Canceling out the natures commotion
Who knew in the end there’d be war
By the tree where beginnings occurred
We carved our names forever they’d stay
A testament to what love we had
The actual sign was in fact bad
For true love could fade away
That day did come in due time too
When I’d kiss those days good bye
The place where my thoughts quietly stood
And my evenings with you lost in the wood
Time had left me high and dry
Memories from that darkened house
Are enough to make one cry
Each event a bookmark in my mind
I've finally had the chance to unwind
That fact no one can deny
