On 1 December, the rare occlusion of Venus occurred and, as it emerged from the Moon's shadow, Jupiter was also in close view.
Venus will see
what we
shall never see
the dark side
of the moon
those cold bleak craters
mountains seas
forever kept
from you and me
by our shy shining moon
that rose so soon
it blocked
our evening guide
from sight
but only for
an hour or so
as drabness
gave way
to light
by Jove
a sparkling diamond
slipping free
from the still stark
crescent moon
