I write books people read.—Mickey Spillane

On Writing and Poetry

I write things people don't read.
My voice is no paramedic's.
My sex life people don't need
to know about or dissect.

I write things people don't read.
The questions the paramedic
asked I couldn't have foreseen.
None but who is what I could think.

I write things people don't read.
But when the ambulance sat idle,
I desperately tried to read.
Was it like a mini-hospital?

I write things people don't read.
But if you're reading this,
don't go too high or deep.
What do I know about this?

Interesting juxtaposition of writing and hospital/medical.
