This poem was inspired by the photo of a bench and fence sitting in half a foot of freshly fallen snow last winter. Try to smell the snow and the wind coming from the shore!

Morning Majesty At Work

This morning, I heard the benches
Standing in the snow
Speaking to the fence (that pretended
To be guarding public land)....

I just keep wondering when lost in private thought
Do other people hear the way I do?
Do other strangers walking with their dogs
Listen to the pigeons and all of their complaints?
Do they bother worrying about the habits of the gulls
Who seems so much hungrier than other creatures do?

I imagine not.....
With all the problems of the day
There is so much more important in the day
Than the banter of the birds and the jealousy of fence
Who seems to feel that benches should face the other way
Least they steal a view of public land
As though ....to trespass with their eyes.

Then, with snow upon my boots and footprints left about
I sat down to look through fence and steal
A peek of morning majesty at work!

Oh, I really do like the thought processes going on in this beautiful work and enjoyed reading it very much. Strange, it brought back memories of the time my oldest son caught a seagull with his bare hands down on Pea Island, NC. Also......
