This was written at the end of summer when those with boats and sails and dairies of places visited we getting ready to store the boat from summer waters....

Saying Good bye to Summer

Saying Good bye to Summer
A Poem for the Departure of a Season
Written for Marianne in Denmark
Copyright 2008 Thomas R. Farrell

Sun
Quietly tip-toeing out of our view...
Silently
Inviting the dusk of night ...
With her purple scented hues
Whispering as though we couldn't hear her leave....

And deep inside that place within my heart
Where dreams will settle for the night
I hear a sigh (a longing, if you will,)
Where I must say good bye to summer's warmth
And wearing shorts and barbeques
and laughter from the porch
And ships that come with masts
and adventure in the wind....

Another season on its way
That winks at leaves upon the trees
As if to tell them all
The hour is at hand for the time of Autumn's Fall.
