i went to the farm today to see the dogs and cats and donkeys and horsies :)
bella spent many years chained up in a small cage and now is free as a bird.
she has a beautiful nature and bears no malice.

Bella

A dog as dark as night
Old as her grey muzzle
Delighted to attempt
To greet me.
She is not bitter
Or muscular.
Enjoying her unbelievable freedom
She licks my hand swaying.
Every day getting slightly stronger...
Still though when you have to leave her
She poses back to her old life...
Sat down and staring far away.

We sing to her of love and trust
She perhaps believes us...
I think that is what she would like to say
Now she is in our clutches.
She is our duchess...
As such she will never be far away
She will be roaming as far as she needs.

Bella now at last has one kind sincere caring friend. Why anyone can be so cruel to chain a dog up in a cage is beyond comprehension. Thanks for sharing Linda.

A touching text. "She is not bitter": Let us hope for as much in our own dotage...

I really like this because I can relate to it so much. My sweet daughter rescued a black lab mut puppy left abandoned in a paper bag on the side of a road. She named her Bella. Bella was the sweetest, just like the Bella of this poem. Melissa couldn't keep her, though, as she grew bigger and very physically active. Fortunately, she had a good friend who lived on a farm up in the mountains who wanted Bella and Melissa still sees her from time to time. Bella is now a very happy, lucky dog!
