Mmmmmmmmmmm

startled
she came
out of the mist
along the dyke
auburn hair
blackened by damp
she walked
t'wards me
relentlessly
with steady steps
as if she knew me
and I her

above us
gulls cackled
ridicule
upon our heads
as the sea crept
unceasingly
closer

did I know her
could I remember her
panic set in
as the chill

Mmmmmmmmmmm
Mmmmmmmmmmm

the fog horn wailed
in its desultory fashion
yet on she walked
her bare feet
moving silently
effortlessly
on the shingle

there was something
about her that
struck me hard
and desperate

was she hope relinquished
a dream abandoned
an idyl scorned
she walked on past
or was it
through me

Mmmmmmmmmmm
Mmmmmmmmmmm

I think that recently I've been having these kind of moments on a daily basis - its called being in a foreign country. Thanks for sharing this intimate setting, I really did feel like a bystander, and yes; it was probably through you. :)
