Open letter to those concerned in the environmental discussion at Almora in a few days... Since there are a few Indians here, welcome to translate, forward and copy. Should alo be of general interest.
For the sake of the Indian people, their health, the future and the welfare of India, she must implement a thorough clean-up. What most surprises foreigners visiting India, is the total carelessness and ignorance of Indians throwing rubbish around everywhere. Even in the most picturesque and remote villages, you find all around dumps of plastic bags and other litter, which is just left there a sore to the eyes of everyone with some sense of decency. Because of this, the international reputation of India is terrible, since it is generally referred to as a 'dump'. I can assure you, that if this would change, and something revolutionary was done about the problem, like a successful campaign to convince people of the damage they do by simply not taking responsibility for their litter, ( - in Singapore you may not spit without being fined - ) and a real national operation was carried through to clean up the country, tourism would boom, health and welfare would boom, environmental problems would greatly diminish, and India would be a better and happier country. So, please do something about it. As it is now, it's a national shame.
