When chains break

When the chains break
that bind you firmly to the past
fall silently like ribbons, unnoticed
what was clearly defined becomes uncertain
in the shadows of memories forgotten
and although your heart cried out to be free
you realise this final loss would cut the deepest
as the light that promised to shine eternal
fades into the background of time.

I think the loss that cuts the deepest is not the loss of the light itself but the loss of the promise that the light held.

Wow. Powerful. I can relate to this completely. We hold onto the thing with such vengeance thinking it is all that holds us together; fear the idea of letting go until we do, and at that point the weight of it is gone and gives us freedom. Very well done. Love this.

Dear Rik, I like your poems indeed. But I would like to know what country you are from. I can't find this information on the site. It is nesessary for my research about the poetry and poets. Can I know it? Thank you.

The emotional tug-o-war many good people suffer. Bound in servitude we slumber until fate says no more, time to move on. To delay this destiny would only bring shame and hopelessness to a hearfelt soul wishing to give their love in exchange for the same.

We cry when set free and our true love of a lifetime has endured the same and may the two so meet. When chains break loving arms embrace!

Great expressive write whereas Cupid was able to retrieve that particular arrow; next shot a bull's eye! Thanks for such a great work of art.

Time is a great healer
Yet time never sets you free,
Time can break chains
Time can but the links remain
The mood of time can any time change
And leave you thinking
Whether the decision to break free
Was worth it at all?

Thought provoking piece!

Love,
Zoya

After those chains are broken, and the links have rusted away it is worthwhile taking a look at the anchoring points ;-)

Only me poundering:
Broken chain, is death,
means change or birth,
there is so many paths,
for me from your words.
