waiting for Perseus

have you ever felt
like a complete idiot
there I was
sitting in a
collapsing
self-folding
garden chair
as stable
as an Irish bank
leaning
as far back
as I could
without ending up
at the doctor’s
with neck strain
looking for Perseus
who I believe
was hiding
somewhere
below Cassiopeia
for the best possible reasons
I hasten to add
and me
sitting
waiting
just
waiting
like a banana
in a dentist’s
waiting room
waiting
just waiting
then
with no warning
and
over in seconds
a long
tapoured
dazzling
white light
slashed
the sky
tinged with red
as though
on fire
in the icy
wastes
of space
my God
what a sight
what a wondrous
mystical
stunningly
beautiful sight
over in a fraction of a second
millions of miles away
O what wonder
what awe

"banana in the dentist's chair" oh, so Pablo Neruda!, the one word lines draw me in - one has the sense of falling into the poem. Great!

What I find amazing is how our minds can turn a little spark in to magic, mystery and wonder. Thank heavens for that! (pun intended)

Sounds like it was worth the wait, spent many hours on sunloungers on holiday watching for shooting stars and satellites with the kids. Loved your description of the garden chair :)
