During a poetry contest, we were given a random topic and were asked to think up something within 5 minutes and were given 10 minutes to write it down. My topic was "41" and this is what I came up with.
A sudden end to my youth and all the fun,
The mirror taunts me as the days go by,
And the wrinkles keep sagging under my eye,
A mark of another year it might,
But in my life it brings about yet another night,
Lord how I'm hit with fright,
When I see my friends,
And their twenty-year-olds squeal with delight,
As if seeing me still single is such a sight,
Never giving life a chance,
I never took what life had to offer,
And now as the clock ticks by,
I'm stuck with my own little lie,
That I'll live a life full of fun,
That I'll never turn 41....

41...
How I curse the day I turn 41,A sudden end to my youth and all the fun,
The mirror taunts me as the days go by,
And the wrinkles keep sagging under my eye,
A mark of another year it might,
But in my life it brings about yet another night,
Lord how I'm hit with fright,
When I see my friends,
And their twenty-year-olds squeal with delight,
As if seeing me still single is such a sight,
Never giving life a chance,
I never took what life had to offer,
And now as the clock ticks by,
I'm stuck with my own little lie,
That I'll live a life full of fun,
That I'll never turn 41....
