In praise of beauty
May I touch your hair and ask you never more to cut it?
That's the foremost evidence of beauty in any human being,
that she knows to cultivate her hair correctly.
There is nothing wrong with beauty, it can never be offensive,
even when it is seductive and distracts your concentration
it is fully meritorious only and to be encouraged.
Beauty as an escapism, deluding people to disorientation
is no less supportable, since it is not beauty's fault –
if people go astray it is entirely their own responsibility,
since only they themselves can do it.
Beauty is a solace and a bandage for the tortures of reality,
and who can blame a nurse for dressing wounds?
So let me live for beauty, since there is not much else to live for,
quite happy with the fact, vicissitude and knowledge
that the truth of love and beauty always will survive me.
