There is a difference between looking for sympathy and attention seeking.
Attention seeking is looking for attention ALL THE TIME. What you refer to is one day...the friend I was refering to was more than one day. It was constantly over and over...until it just came off as attention seeking.
Sometimes you can tell by body language. If they never space out, they are probably not sad. If they are spacing out, they are probably sad.
But, ok, you're right. Sometimes you can't tell, because sometimes they know the body language signs, and they know not to do them.
