darkness of the heart

is there
a cure for
this darkness
of the heart

they tell me
to forget the past
live the now
and
embrace the future
but
where does that leave me
the past contains
unspeakable pain
and the future
a terrible prospect

no
I walk a line
along the sand
where seagulls shriek
and the wind
obliterates my steps

yes
to Mayo go
when all else fails
and on an Erris shore
I am complete
as no-where else
40 years a salving
this is my present
my past
my future
a curlew's cry
from heaven

What I get out of this is hope,
I see the nature breathing
in your heart being so alive.

Elle The PoetBay support member heart!
We find a kind of salvation in the beauty that surrounds us I think - perhaps the heaviness of heart makes the scenery more beautiful - exquisite writing - I wish you all the best for 2009 and may your wonderful poetry still enrich this site

I agree that nothing soothes and heals like Nature Peter. Dark memories and pain can never be fully erased, of this I am certain. We just have to find the best way to deal with them, as the person in the poem seems to have done.

The hurt in your words sink deep into my heart! There are times when you are in a place where ther is no light and living is not a prospect we are taking to our kindly ,,,, I wish for the person of this poem to find a blend of the past and future that will guide him/her towards a path more tolerable ,,,

a heartfelt poem
