According to the WHO, some 56,ooo,ooo deaths occur each year or over 100 per minute. For every death, there are a little over 2.25 births.

just think on that

hey
hey you
who me
yes you
why
I want to tell you something
why
just bear with me for a minute
ok
just stop for a while
if you can
pull up a chair
make a coffee or a tea
and listen a while

can you remember
the first time
you saw a daisy
or saw the lush green trees of spring caressed by wind
or caught sight of someone you knew would be special to you
or fell into a ditch
or tried to touch the sky
or ran bare foot in the sand
or kissed a friend goodbye
or were in total despair
or sublime wonderment

well
in the time it has taken to read this poem
never mind conjure up your memories and imagings
over 100 people have died
and over 225 babies born

just think on that

I think on this kinda thing all the time Peter. It is a great worry, but we still go on, breeding, taking, spoiling. We are SO important, us humans aren't we? Great message.

Hi Peter,

you've done it again; made me think when I was trying to stay away from that sort of thing. The problem with this is that it pointed out to me that, not only could I not remember the first time that I experienced these things, but that, apart from the last-but-one, I'm not sure that I ever have experienced them.

You have the knack of evisceration without the mercy of death at the end of it – superb.

Mark.

Awesome way to present it, the facts. I love the way you describe things, Peter. :)

It is a scary thought when you see the figures so boldly put. Yet we are constantly being told of an ageing population - its a chase between the earths resources and mankind I think - Great thought piece Peter!

The numbers are frightening for an already over populated world.
