Duckian Sonnet I (I miss the way you smile at me)

2011-10-19
I really love your expressions here; the title in particular effectively captures the longing and frustration of seeing a loved one go through hard times and wondering when things will get better.

One thing I will say is that sometimes it feels like you're forcing yourself and your piece to rhyme and stay in a meter...maybe try writing it with no form or rhyme scheme whatsoever, and see what happens?

Beautiful write!

=D

Beautimous!
Ah, how happy I've been
Not even realizing that
An hour or more has passed
Not even caring, just
Arranging those letters in
Great and glorious
Refrains, or simply making
A silly special
Mess of
Sounds...what endless fun!

Angry Villanelle

2009-09-24
Dang...I don't envy this person at allllll, and I share Nick's curiosity. But either way, whether you'd care to divulge said information or keep it to yourself, this is quite an excellent write.

Willow Tree

No more, my weary heart lament

2008-12-16
You know, this might be the best villanelle I've read of yours. Quite excellent. I believe I can hear those kithing angels...

A Safe Haven

2008-12-09

Life (III)

2008-11-13
I don't think any of us expected to be where we are now. Things are just so...I don't even know.

But it is life, and it is good. And this poem is very uplifting...it makes me happy. =) Thank you, you gorgeously wonderful person you.

We Passed the Other Day (III)

2008-10-27
i must say, i rather like the III's, although if there is a special significance behind them other than the fact that they make a cool style i'm afraid it's lost on me.

you're sure i won't know who it's about?

Why don't I care?

2008-10-06
START CARING. KTHX BYE.

This is just getting a litte ridiculous

2008-10-02
Maybe we could convince
Each one of our

Teachers to just let us sleep
Or maybe not...
Oh well, I think I'll take a nap...

A Schizophrenic Hat Stand

2008-09-27

the beauty of the seed

2008-09-23
simple and pure, like all of nature's most beautiful wonders. lovely.

Toot Sweet

2008-09-23
haha, oh dear, why indeed...embarrassing things seem to happen at the most inconvenient times, and the best thing we can do is to see the humor in the situation, as you have masterfully done here. : ) a most enjoyable poem!

Because That's What Killers Do

2008-09-23
the rhythm is genius...an intense poem that grabbed and held my attention. applauds, my dear sir---you are more than deserving of them for this write.

Why do I try?

2008-09-17
ir's always worth trying, for someone you love.

you are amazing. no one who deserves your love will ever forget that.

Who are you to do this and why?

2008-09-15
love.this.lots

title reminds me of that one edna st. vincent-millay sonnet...what my lips have kissed, and where, and why...or whatever it is...

tres bril. seriously.

Late Night, Thinking About You...

2008-09-15
i wonder the same thing. different "you", though.

and i mean i'm pretty sure he's not.

Wildflower

2008-09-13
i already said this, but...

love.it.

you have quite a knack for conveying deep sadness and longing through simple phrases and ideas, which makes your poetry so powerful.

When I See You Once More

2008-09-12
i like how some of the lines continue on to the next one... "What will you do? I suppose you'll ignore/The feelings you had, you used once to care..." also like the way your questions throughout the text and the ellipses you use sort of suggest a sense of desperation. quite a good villanelle.

A BIG Jerkasaurous

2008-09-12
ah, the jerkasaurous...one of the most savage beasts in existence.

The Sleeping Boy

2008-09-11
adorable. i want one.

Things are finally...

2008-09-07
Here is a lovely acrostic
Of positive manner
Oh, how I do enjoy optimism
Rarely is it found with us
Although I wish this were about
You

On a Good Shower

2008-09-07
showers rule all.

Brick

2008-09-07
reminds me of chicago for some reason...i kinda love this

The Ark

2008-09-07
your pain shows through so vividly here. a deeply moving and sorrowful write.

On the Course of a Day

2008-08-26
i am so apprehensive about how awkward i'll be
if these things you descirbe here [finally] happen to me...

(posting this will probably screw up the lines, but fourteen is too many syllables for a couplet anyway.)

excellent write, m'dear...tells a story that is quite easy to follow/envision. yay you.

The Safe Choice (About Movies)

2008-08-25
i think i will take this as advice. the next time i'm in blockbuster, i will pick up a movie i know nothing about, read the back cover, decide that i like it, and give it a chance without thinking about the whole thing too much.

The Safe Choice (Not About Movies)

2008-08-25
and yet the movie poem applies here...making the safe choice has caused him to miss out on more wonder and joy than he can comprehend. good use of repetition here.

The Canoe

2008-08-25
beautiful imagery. simply stunning, master matherne. : )

The Return

2008-08-25
i love how the last line of the first stanza compliments the last line in the first stanza...makes the whole thing flow and sort of come back and connect in the end.

Take My Hand

2008-08-25
cute.sad.wonderful.

seriously, i love this one a lotttt.

On the Subject of Weather

2008-08-25
sigh...sometimes clouds are nice when there's just too much light and heat around, but i agree with you---there has not been enough in my life of late, either. well-expressed and memorable.

A little bit of light . . .

2008-08-24
this poem has a good message for me right now. i'm afraid i am a little too deep in my depression to see any sun, but i'll take your word for it that it's worth waiting for it to come back. thank you so much for your words.

Ode to Robert Layman

2008-08-22
A heartfelt tribute to a most beloved man. RIP Mr. Layman.

Reflections on a Chalkboard (Slowly filled from black to white)

2008-08-22
mmm, i like this...something about the expression and imagery makes it seem rather like an extended metaphor, though i don't think it was intended to be (?)

A Prickly Sort of Person

2008-08-22
my favorite part, i have to say, is the description, simply because i smiled hugely when i read it.

Failure

2008-08-22
strikes quite a chord with me...actually, it's more of a tri-tone. X)well-expressed.

The Ship of Poets

2008-08-22
This is a lovely tribute to our new editor, with beautiful imagery and feeling. Thank you for sharing this with us. : )

And I for one would like to offer a hearty huzzah for our new captain!

Sigh...

2008-08-21
seeing you so down makes me sad.
i know, however, that you can
get through this. your angel-
heart deserves better love.

ich vermisse Sie,i miss you (song)

2008-08-18
ich habe dieses Lied sehr gern. danke schön. : )

(sorry, my German needs work...)

This song really hits home with me, as I have gone through something similar this summer. It's beautiful. And I agree, poetry can be best when tears come with it.

Where Doves and Lilies Grow

2008-08-18
Kathy, this is lovely both in style and sentiment. My favorite parts:

That havens be left as havens
Where doves and lilies grow.
Where thoughts are expressed in comfort.
And where hearts beating flow

and

So let us lift up our silent voices
And sing out through the wriiten word
All of our thoughts and feelings.
This is our Haven, our place to be heard.

Absolutely stunning.

A Villanelle on a Boy

2008-08-18
